Avenged Sevenfold | Talks About New Drummer

On January 22, Mistress Carrie of the Worcester/Boston, Massachusetts radio station WAAF conducted an interview with bassist Johnny Christ of Orange County, California's Avenged Sevenfold when the band played at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Massachusetts during the "Nightmare After Christmas" tour with Stone Sour and Hollywood Undead.

Avenged Sevenfold kicked off the "Nightmare After Christmas" tour on Thursday (January 20) in Reading, Pennsylvania. The show marked Avenged's live debut with Arin Ilejay, formerly the drummer for Los Angeles-based Christian rock group Confide, who is sitting behind the kit for Avenged Sevenfold's upcoming tour dates.

The relatively unknown Ilejay is the second drummer to play with Avenged Sevenfold following the December 2009 death of original drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan. The band recruited ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy to play on its latest album, "Nightmare", and all its 2010 tour dates before dismissing him at the end of the year.

The band said in a statement, "We recently asked several friends who knew Jimmy and his style, and also knew our music and each of our personalities to suggest drummers to tour with us starting this year. Our longtime studio drum tech Mike Fasano recommended Arin Ilejay. We've rehearsed with Arin and have been impressed with his technical skills, attitude and work ethic. We're very excited to tour with Arin and hope all of you will give him the warm welcome to the family we have."

Ilejay played on Confide's 2008 debut album, "Shout The Truth", and appeared on tour with the group.

Sullivan was found dead in his Huntington Beach, California home at the age of 28. His death was attributed to a lethal combination of prescription drugs and alcohol.

The latest single from "Nightmare", which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart last summer, is "Welcome To The Family".

Power Quest | New song streaming

"Survive", a brand new song from U.K-based metallers Power Quest, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Blood Alliance", which will be released via Napalm Records on the following dates:

  • Japan, Southeast Asia: January 26 (through Marquee/Avalon)
  • Spain, Finland, Sweden: March 23
  • Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy: March 25
  • Rest of Europe: March 28
  • USA, Canada: April 5

"Blood Alliance" was recorded at Foel Studios (Paul Rodgers, Napalm Death, The Wildhearts) in Wales next . Eleven songs were laid down for the follow-up to 2008's "Master Of Illusion", including one bonus track. The CD cover artwork was once again designed by Felipe Machado (Blind Guardian, Silent Force).

Commented keyboardist Steve Williams: "Well, it has been a long time coming but finally the fifth Power Quest album is done and I don't think I have ever been so excited about releasing an album. All the guys have given 110% to this record and I'm proud of them all. It's without doubt the heaviest Power Quest album yet but without sacrificing the Power Quest melodic tradition. I just can't wait for you all to hear it!"

Power Quest's last album, "Master of Illusion", was released in 2008 via Napalm Records/Avalon Marquee (Japan). Guest musicians on the CD include keyboardist Richard West from the U.K. progressive metal band Threshold, Jorn Viggo Lofstad from the Norwegian power metal act Pagan's Mind and Fourwaykill singer Chris Neighbour.

High Voltage 2011 | Line Up Announcement

Following the exciting announcement that heavy metal legends Judas Priest will play their farewell festival performance as High Voltage headliners and metal heroes Dream Theater will be closing the weekend with their only 2011 UK festival performance, we are delighted to announced that joining them on the main stage is none other than heavy rock supergroup
Black Country Communion, featuring Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) on vocals and bass, Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin) on drums, Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) on keyboards, and Joe Bonamassa (the blues-rock solo star) on guitar and vocals. The band released its debut album in 2010 to widespread critical acclaim and will not be performing at any other UK festival this year.

They will be joined on the main stage by Michael Schenker Group led by the guitar hero who made his name in the 1970s with two iconic bands – Britain’s UFO and Germany’s Scorpions.

We’re also thrilled to reveal that the legendary Jethro Tull – led by charismatic singer and flute player Ian Anderson and guitarist Martin Barre – are set to headline the Prog Stage; this is a UK exclusive, Tull’s only UK show of 2011.

Following a lengthy hiatus two cult prog bands have reformed to join us on the Prog Stage, Spock’s Beard will perform another UK festival exclusive and British heroes Caravan add to the occasion alongside Mostly Autumn, Pallas and The Enid.
